The Little Sprouts Community Garden

Community Garden

The garden consists of family sized plots available to plant vegetables, plants and flowers.  The garden allows people in the community to enjoy a garden of their own where some households are unable to do so.  Community gardening allows community members to learn and share gardening skills, meet new people and reduce food costs in their homes.  In 2002 the Schreiber Public Library received a grant through the Ontario Early Challenge Years Fund to build a community garden and promote healthy living.  Since 2004 the garden has provided many families with the opportunity to grow food.

In 2005, the library received an Award of Excellence from OLS-N for Children's Services for the Little Sprouts Community Garden.

In 2006, the library received a Public Library Service Award, the Angus Mowat Award of Excellence, from the Ministry of Culture for the Little Sprouts Community Garden.
